To pick up communication skills, you must first shed your fears. You should dare to speak in English, whether you are able to use the right language or not. Once you are prepared for this, you will definitely improve over a period of time.
Your course provides good opportunities to improve your communications skills. As a part of our curriculum you will be participating in projects, seminars and presentations. All these give you a chance to observe others, learn and practise communication skills. Utilise them to the full extent. Participate in every event and give them your best shot. Seek feedback on your performance from your friends and faculty. Analyse the feedback, identify your areas of improvement and work on them.
Before you begin with improving your communication skills, know one thing- the process consumes time and effort. You cannot improve your communication skills in few weeks. Also there is no single way to improve the skills. You have to integrate the practice into your day-to-day life. Read aloud newspapers and magazines everyday. Speak in English with your friends and teachers. Learn grammar and try to increase your vocabulary. Make it a practice to learn at least five words every day and try to use them that day while talking to others. Seek the guidance of teachers or relatives and do not feel ashamed when they point out mistakes. If necessary, attend some language proficiency or spoken English courses in the evenings or holidays. Practice languages exercises available on the Internet.
