  1. DA (Dearness Allowance): Currently, it is 109% of basic pay but it may vary from location to location.

  3. TA (Travel Allowance): SBI Clerks and their family members are entitled to board the 2nd tier of AC trains throughout India and make use of the free accommodations at places, where the bank has guesthouses.

SBI Clerk Job Profile
The job role comprises of the following duties:

  1. Dealing with customers and handling their queries.
  2. As cashiers or single window operators, clerks deal with withdrawals and deposits.
  3. Providing customers with banking services such as verifying cheques, issuing demand drafts, and accepting payments.
  4. Be a part of back-office responsibilities, such as ledger maintenance and balancing transactions.
  5. As a Junior Associate in the department of Customer Sales and Support, a clerk is expected to market financial products such as loans, deposits, and schemes to the customers.

Career Prospects
In the clerical cadre, the job of an SBI Clerk is considered to be the most prestigious. After a certain period of rendering service, a clerk gets an opportunity to be a PO in the following two ways:
  1. OJM exam: This is an internal written exam followed by an interview. To be eligible for this exam, the clerk should have worked for 6 years under the fast track promotion channel or should have 12 years of service under the normal promotion channel. A clerk was promoted to the post of a PO via this examination enjoys the same perks as that of a PO, but there is a difference of Rs. 6,000 between the two.
  1. Internal examination: An internal examination is conducted every two years. A clerk has to fulfill any of the following criteria to be eligible for appearing in this exam:
    1. 3 years of service with the completion of CAIIB (Certified Examination of the Indian Institute of Bankers) exam.
    2. 4 years of service with the completion of JAIIB (Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) exam.
    3. A minimum of 6 years of service.

After the clerk is promoted to the post of a PO, he will have to serve a probationary period of 2 years.
