4. The phrase “One of” is followed by a plural by a plural noun but a singular verb.

5. Verbs like understand, know, remember, forget, think, prefer, want hear, smell, taste, see, like, dislike, hate, love, seem, become, mind etc. are not used in continuous tenses.

6.Verbs like have consist, belong, possess, resemble, cost, etc. are not used in continuous tense.
Eg :
The book is belonging to me(x )
The book belongs to me (ü)
These bottles are containing chemicals (x )
These bottles contain chemicals (ü)
I am not having much money (x )
I do not have much money (ü)
7.With the preposition ‘since’ and ‘for’ present perfect continuous tense is used ‘since’ is used for a point of time ‘for’ is used for period of time.
Eg:
The clerk is typing the letters since 3 ‘ O clock (X)
The clerk has been typing the letters since 3’ O clock (ü)
I am studying in the school from six years (X)
I have been studying in the school for six years (ü)
We are trying to learn English for ten years (X)
We have been trying to learn English for ten years (ü)
8. Remember the pattern of a direct question
(WH ) + HV + SUBJECT + MV ………………?
Eg :
Why you went out without my permission ? (x )

“where you live ? “asked the stranger (x )

Note : But when a main clause precedes a question, the question is changed a statement from

9. “ Be able to / able to “ are not used with can / could
Eg :
I can able to do it (x )
I can do it (ü)
I am able to do it (ü)
We could be able to finish the work (x )
We could finish the work (ü)
We were be able to finish the work (ü)
10. The verb ‘ RETURN’ is not followed by ‘ back’ & ‘repeat’ is not followed by ‘ again’
Eg :
Please return back the money and don’t repeat it again (x )

11. Verbs like avoid, stop, remember, enjoy, risk, mind, see, hear are followed by a gerund ( ing from)
Eg:
You must avoid to meet her. (x )
You must avoid meeting her. (ü)
Do you mind to wait a few seconds? (x )
Do you mind waiting a few seconds? (ü)
12. The phrase or the two is used with comparative adjective.
Eg :
She is the tallest of the two girls. (x )
She is the taller of the two girls, (ü)
Which is the best of the two books? (x )
Which is the better of the two books? (ü)
13. Adjectives like junior, inferior, superior, preferable, elder are follows by ‘to’
Eg :
Jack is junior than john (x )
Jack is junior to john (ü)
14. To make negative sentences of simple present & simple past, we must use
‘do’ forms.
‘do’/ ‘does’ for preset tense
‘did’ for past tense
Note: Do , does & did are followed by V
Eg :

15. Learn the following expressions carefully

no use, no good etc , are followed by a gerund ( ing from)
