 GATE 2013
.:: GATE Score, Results and Score Card ::.

After the evaluation of the answers, the raw marks obtained by a candidate will be converted to a normalised GATE Score.

Normalized GATE Score (new formula):

From 2013, the GATE score is computed by a new formula.
A candidate's score is computed as:  $S = S_q + (S_t - S_q) \frac{M-M_q}{\overline{M}_t-M_q}$
where,

S = GATE Score (normalised) of a candidate,
M = Marks obtained by a candidate in a paper,
Mq = Qualifying marks for general category candidates in the paper,
Mt = Average Marks of top 0.1% or 10 (which ever is higher) of candidates in the paper,
St = GATE Score assigned to Mt (around 900), and
Sq = GATE Score assigned to Mq (around 300).

Mq is usually 25 marks (out of 100) or µ + s, whichever is higher. Here µ is the mean of marks of all candidates in a paper (with negative marks converted to zero) and s is the standard deviation of the candidates' marks.

Old formula:

Till GATE 2012 the score was calculated using the formula: GATE score =  $10(a_g + s_g\frac{m-a}{S})$

Where
m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
S = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE for that year
ag= global average of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years
sg= global standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared across all papers and years

GATE Results
GATE results will be announced in March and will be available on the GATE Online Applicant Website.

GATE score is valid for TWO YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.
GATE results may be made available on payment basis to interested organizations (educational institutions, R & D laboratories, industries, etc.) in India and abroad based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between IIT Bombay and the requesting organization. Details in this regard can be obtained from the Chairman, GATE, IIT Bombay.

GATE Score Card
Scorecard will be issued (mailed to the correspondence address given in the application) to all the candidates for a paper whose marks are equal to or above the qualifying marks of SC/ST/PD candidates in that paper. There is no provision for issue of additional GATE scorecards.

The GATE Committee with the NCB’s approval has the authority to decide the qualifying score for each GATE paper.
