IBPS Probationary Officers / Management Trainees Examination Details

This is the Junior Management Level direct entry point for dynamic young graduates in all public and private sector banks. A Probationary officer gets exposed to challenging assignment as also gets the opportunity to involve in nation building developmental activities. One can reach to the position of CMD of a bank with honest hardworking. Good analytical and troubleshooting skills are required to be successful in a banking career.

Eligibility Criteria:
A. Essential Academic Qualifications: (As on the date mentioned in notification)
A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Government of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.

B. Age Limit: (As on the date mentioned in notification)
Minimum Age: 20 years;
Maximum Age: 30 years (As on the date mentioned in notification).

Selection Procedure:
The structure of the Examinations which will be conducted online are as follows.

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination:
Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1-hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be short listed for the Main Examination.

Phase-II: Main Examination:
Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks of 2-hour duration consist of 5 Sections as follows.

Note:
There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th mark or 0.25 mark assigned to the question will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Phase–III: Interview:
Candidates who have been shortlisted in the main examination for CWE PO/MT-V will subsequently be called for an Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisations and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/UT with the help of IBPS.

Career Path
The Probationary Officers will be on probation of two years during which they will be given intensive training. Towards the end of their probation / training period, they will be subjected to a screening process. While those Officers who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Assistant Manager, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The services of those Officers who fail to qualify in this process will be terminated. Bank provides immense opportunities for growth in the Bank including opportunities for postings abroad. The attractive promotion policy of the Bank provides an opportunity to the meritorious and exceptionally brilliant officers to reach the Top Management Grade in a reasonably quick time.

Roles and Responsibilities of Probationary Officers
In Probation Period i.e. the first 2 years after joining a bank the PO will be assigned any kind of bank related activity such as opening new accounts, deposits, receipts, loans, cheque books, ATM/Debit and Credit cards, Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, Cash Management, Supervision of clerical work etc. Purely it can be the clerk or assistant type of job.

PO will be trained as where he/she get practical knowledge in Deposits, Loans, Cheque books, ATM/Debit cards etc. By performing these functions, they become familiar with various working procedures of the bank.

He / She has to verify all the work done by a clerk. All the transactions of bank involve the role of make rand checker. For example, in cash transactions, if a clerk is the maker, then the PO is the checker.

Probationary Officer will have to work towards increasing the bank business viz. managing cash flow, loans recovery, planning, budgeting, marketing, loan processing and approval, investment management, mortgages and finances.

PO is supposed to work as a public relations officer when listening to customers, handling complaints regarding bank services, rectifying discrepancies in accounts, rectification of undue charges etc.

He/she takes care of the loan related documents and performs on-site visit of the loan taking parties wherever required.

PO should be aware of all the latest developments of the bank. They are required to read all the circulars and should know about all the decisions taken by the bank management.

He / She should be familiar with the bank environment and gain enough experience on bank's working procedures, based on their personal skills and aptitude. Sometimes he has to take the decisions to rectify the problems.
