Giving life to a prodigy’s character is the art of animation. It is the process by which we see still images move. Animation is making of movies, games or cartoons by moving the drawings or models of characters with the help of computers or other electronic means. Two Dimensional Animation (2D) and Three Dimensional Animation (3D) are main techniques in animation. Clay Animation, Puppet Animation, Sand Animation are some other techniques. The 2D and 3D animations can be created digitally.

Animator work....
The steps involved in the animation process are Idea development, Pre-production, Production, and Post-production. During the idea development process, the characterization of the characters takes place. These ideas are changed to layout. Under pre-production process, Script writing, Story boarding, Character development, Backgrounds, Layout designing, Animatics and Voice will take place. After completion of Scanning, Composing, Background preparation and Coloring works... Sound recording, Color editing, Testing, Special sound effects are added in production stage. In the final stage i.e., post-production, Editing, Special effects, Color corrections, Composing, Voice, music editing and rendering works will takes place.

Animation Courses....
There are many private institutes in India which are offering Post-graduation, Graduation, Diploma and Certificate Courses in animation. You will be trained particularly in Animation Styles, Techniques related to Stop Motion Animation, Rotoscoping, Computer Generated 3D, 2D Animation, Clay Motion, Photoshop, Human Anatomy and Drawing skills.

Qualifications required are...
Basic sketching skills and interest towards animation are enough for being a good animator. But, it is necessary for you to undergo training to become a professional animator. A Diploma or Degree in animation is a requisite for forging ahead and making a place for you in the industry. The minimum eligibility to join in an animation course is a pass in 12th standard in any stream. The graduates can join in post-graduation courses in animation. Institutes like Industrial Design Center, Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Design are providing animation courses for engineering and architecture graduates.

Skills required for an animator...
You need not be a master at drawing or art but you should know the basics of drawing and sketching skills. You need to sharpen your drawing skills further before you plunge into the world of animation. You must be creative in your thoughts and good at imagination. Remember, you are going to work with a team of animators on a project for days. So, it is necessary for you to have good communication skills and the ability to work with a team. You should work with commitment, patience and discipline. If you have knowledge on Computer Design Software, C++ and Java Programming... it will be an added advantage. Having a little bit of idea on lighting, photography is a plus.

Salaries for Animators...
The employability in this career is very satisfactory. It is a good paying professional course. Salary in this field depends on the skills and creativity of ones. A fresher can expect a start of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 depending on their skills. After gaining an experience of 3 to 5 years, you can get salary worth Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000 per month. With an increase in experience you can see a growth in your income from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 or more.
